NORFOLK, VA: The Virginia Choreographic Collaborative is pleased to announce its first annual Winter Showcase at the Wells Theater in the heart of Downtown Norfolk on Friday, December 17, 2021 at 8:00pm. The performance will feature an evening of original choreography from local artists and a donation drive where audience members can either bring in physical items, give of their money to local charities, or sign up to give of their time to aforementioned local charities. Tickets to this night of holiday spirit and community will be available for purchase starting November 1. Single ticket admission is $25 and can be purchased on The VCC website at www.vcc.org. Student, senior, and military discounts will be available as well as multiple ticket bundles.
The local choreographers with original works featured in this year’s Winter Showcase are Taylor Bonadies, Mina Estrada, Jet Jameson, Ricardo Melendez, and Janelle Smith-Ings. This diverse line-up of artists will bring much needed representation to our community through their personal perspectives on gender identity, the queer experience, and ethnic diversity as shown in their choreography. The evening will also feature a donation drive with local charity partners The Union Missions, The LGBT Life Center, and The Children’s Hospital for the Kid’s Daughters (CHKD), among many others. In an effort to be inclusive and sensitive to our audience member’s capacity, interest, and ability to give, there will be options for them to bring in donations, give money, or sign up to volunteer. We want each participant to know that whatever they can give, it will be appreciated. We also want to thank our aforementioned partners in this endeavor.
CEO of The VCC, Katherine Montgomery, says, “We are very excited to kick off this annual tradition of dance and donation in our beloved community. We just want everyone who comes to feel valued, heard, entertained, and fulfilled. We believe that true change can be facilitated at the intersection of art and community.”
As a community of all ages, many higher education institutions, and home to the country’s Navy, we offer a variety of ticket discounts and want to thank everyone who is part of The VCC family past, present, and future.
In an effort to be accessible to all, there will be wheelchair accessible seating and large print programs available at the performance. For any and all other accommodations, please call The VCC at 757-123-4567 prior to attending the performance so that we may personally ensure your needs are met so that you are able to enjoy a night of live art.
