INGRID MICHAELSON RETURNS TO HOUSE OF BLUES BOSTON
Ingrid Michaelson is returning to Boston for a one night only performance at the House of Blues Boston on Oct. 24, 2020. Tickets can be purchased at livenation.com.
Following on the heels of her latest tour, The Dramatic Tour, Michaelson is returning to Boston almost exactly a year later. Last year’s tour was to promote her latest album Stranger Songs, inspired by the hit Netflix series Stranger Things and embraced an ’80s theme throughout the night as she incorporated covers of classic ’80s hits like “Time After Time” and “Material Girl” in addition to some of her own well-known, fan favorite songs. Broadway World writer Danielle Taylor crowned Michaelson the “indie-pop queen,” and described her as a “talented, hilarious gem of a human” with songs that “touch deep” following her New York City performance that concluded The Dramatic Tour.
Netflix’s Stranger Things has been a worldwide success since its release on the streaming platform in 2016. It has inspired Halloween costumes, a nostalgic return to all the best things the ’80s had to offer and now a hit album. The songs are inspired by certain scenes from the series, but Michaelson also infuses her own personal identity into the songs. This expansion on universal human themes makes the album poignant to everyone who has lost a loved one, struggled with society’s views on female beauty or has yearned for the nostalgia of the past, not just to fans of the Netflix series. Michaelson tells the Boston Herald, “That’s why ‘Stranger Things’ resonates with me. It transports me back, even if just for a moment,” in reference to the album’s concluding ballad “Take Me Home.”
Stranger Things fans will get a kick out of set design and props used during her show, such as tube socks, boomboxes and Dungeons & Dragons, a game the four main male characters of the series are seen playing often in the first season. Fans of Michaelson’s singer-songwriting roots will enjoy the nostalgia she brings in performing some of her decades old hit songs. And anyone who enjoys being transported back to the excess of the ’80s will get a chance to relive that era with a cover of Madonna’s “Material Girl.”
This year will mark Michaelson’s seventh time performing at the House of Blues in Boston within the last ten years! Seeing Michaelson in concert at House of Blues Boston can almost be considered a tradition by now, so you know you’ll be in for a great show. Fans can hope to hear some of her classics, more from her recent album Stranger Songs, and several new singles she has released this year.
Michaelson is an award-winning singer-songwriter who releases all her own music through her independent label, Cabin 24 Records. If you don’t know her name, you definitely know her music. Her songs have been featured in Grey’s Anatomy and One Tree Hill, which helped her gain exposure and a following, as well as an Old Navy clothing commercial. As of 2020, Michaelson has released a total of nine albums as well as many EPs and singles.
The Staten Island native was born into an artistic family who nurtured her love for music and performing. She majored in theatre at Binghamton University and later joined a touring theatre company. It was then that she began writing the music that would eventually be compiled into her online released album, Slow the Rain. After the subsequent release of her next two albums, she went on tour domestically and then in Europe with Jason Mraz. Over her career she has collaborated with artists such as A Great Big World, Tegan and Sara, Sara Bareilles, and many more. Her albums have ranged from folksy to pop to Christmas-themed, and most recently Stranger Things-themed.
