Heightened Memories

Our voices carried from rooftops above

Twinkling lights and sinking tides.

One step forward and the ground would give way,

Sitting on the edge of our world

Thinking this moment would stay

(Stay forever)

I never believed that blood was thicker than water.

I found my family

And my family found me.

But what they never say,

Is even family can’t be counted on to remain.

They’re simply crossing lines

On their way to something more to find.

Our legs would dangle over the city life below,

Where invincibility never felt so strong

As when we were one push from something going wrong.

On top of the world

But sinking in life

Was the state that found us most alive.

We were the reason we all survived.

These knots weren’t made to be permanent

I know that now

But God I miss our rooftop talks

And how we wished on stars

Hoping to become them ourselves.

And to everyone who’s stayed,

I thank you for making me this way.

Mosaic memories may fade and dilute

But never will I ever forget all of you.
